- Multi-photon Confocal Lab
In addition, InterTech tenants have access to nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) equipment at Centenary College , one of the CERT institutions located adjacent to the Park.
Animal Care Facilities
A 37,000 square foot, AAALAC-accredited animal care facility is staffed by research veterinarians and certified technicians. It provides two BSL-3 laboratories, specialized rooms for housing animals in isolation, and several special procedure rooms. The facility can house a variety of species including dogs, cats, pigs, mice, rats, and guinea pigs. An off campus farm houses larger animals such as cows, sheep, and goats. Two Louisiana locations provide access to non-human primates: the Tulane National Primate Center and the New Iberia Research Center.
Animal Imaging Facility
The Small Animal Imaging Facility is a state of the art center for molecular imaging located within the barrier facility of the Animal Resources Program. The facility offers micro-positron emission tomography (microPET), micro-computed assisted tomography (microCT), and optical imaging including in vivo chemiluminescence and fluorescence imaging capabilities. Isotopes for the microPET are provided to investigators by the Biomedical Research Foundation.
LSU Health Shreveport maintains a clinical trials office to facilitate access to its patient population for approved clinical trials. LSU Health Shreveport has over 32 years of experience in conducting clinical trials in 32 medical specialties, and offers clinical trials capabilities in over 100 therapeutic areas in Phase I-IV clinical trials and Gene Therapy trials. The Center offers a diverse patient population, including a large minority population and a new state-of-the-art Cancer Treatment Center.
A list of current trials and clinical research units can be found on the web site.

Cost Advantage Example
Looking for a biotechnology location with low operating costs and a trained life science workforce? A notable site selection consultant (The Boyd Company of Princeton , NJ ) published a study entitled Comparative Cost Analysis for North American Biomedical Industry Operations. The study modeled the cost to operate a 75,000 SF life science facility in 50 cities across North America , factoring in labor, electric, lease, corporate travel, heating, air conditioning and amortization costs. In the Total Annual Operating Cost Rankings , Shreveport was ranked the 4th most cost-effective location in North America , being 25% to 35% less costly than west coast and northeast locations, and 10% to 25% less costly than mid-Atlantic east coast locations.
